Father's Day is on Sunday, 2 September, what better way to help the children celebrate and thank their dads then with a special homemade gift? These simple ideas are suitable for all ages and will melt the heart of all the hardworking fathers in your service.

Photo coaster - Use a colour printer and some old CDs or DVDs to create a long lasting gift that dads will love.

Picture frame - You'll need a bit of gear for this activity so start your planning early. The results are great and children will love working with the clay.

Shirt and tie card - Smaller children may need help folding the paper but will enjoy decorating the tie to glorious effect.

Tie painting - Children who are too young to decorate a card in the activity above may prefer painting a tie on a big piece of paper.

Can cooler - The perfect accompaniment to a summer's day. Use craft foam and glue to make this great gift.

Garden decorations - Plaster of Paris is the base for these awesome garden decorations which should stand the test of time.

Spare change tray – Up-cycle polystyrene trays with a bit of paint and some stick-on bling. These little trays can be used for keys, coins and anything else that has a habit of getting lost.

Handprint crafts - Handprint crafts are especially wonderful for younger kids and can be turned into gifts with the addition of a poem or by being stuck onto a card.

Foam photo frame - Quick, easy and totally mess free. This super fun activity is great for a last minute gift idea and helps to promote fine motor skills.
